Greener Building Articles on the Jobsite

What are they about?

In the Greener Building section of Jobsite, BuildIQ provides articles, a few tools, and links to other websites and resources that can help you become more proactive about improving the quality and performance of your homes, and help you open new doors to a growing group of prospective homebuyers – energy and environmentally-minded consumers.

You hear the term green building a lot nowadays. We hear it daily, but around BuildIQ we think of it as whole-house, high-performance homebuilding. We share this philosophy with our sister company, IBACOS, who conducts research as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Program to help builders go green, or build for higher performance. Those in the know will tell you that there are a lot of factors that make a home green – from sustainable site development to materials selection and from energy efficiency to indoor air quality. More on the bigger picture is available in our article “Green Building 101.”

It’s not practical for you as a homebuilder, especially if you’re building at the production level, to change all of these aspects of your building process overnight. But, there are Best Practices® that you can follow to help your homes evolve and provide real benefits for you, your homeowners and the environment right away. These benefits include material or labor cost savings, enhanced durability, energy savings, water savings, better indoor air quality, and a more comfortable environment for your homeowners, among other things.

The more Best Practices® you use, the greener your homes will become. Greener than code, greener than homes you’ve built before, and in the future, greener than your competitors'!

Each month, a new feature article is added to the Greener Building section of Jobsite and linked to our home page. If you get our monthly e-newsletter, Jobsite NEWS, we’ll send a link directly to you by e-mail, along with highlights from featured Risk Management and People and Process articles.
