IBACOS Receives Green Builder Award for Home of Innovation Project
The Home of Innovation™ Demonstration House in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia—the first single-family home in the Middle East region to earn Platinum certification under the USGBC’s LEED for Homes International Pilot program—received the “Best Demonstration Home” award in the 2016 Green Builder Awards.
“We are excited to be recognized amongst this prestigious group of projects driving innovation in the industry,” said Dennis Steigerwalt, managing director of IBACOS International. “This award reinforces our passion to deliver ‘the better home’ around the world."
The three-level, 8,600-square-foot, fully furnished home showcases innovative yet commercially-available products and systems integrated to achieve high levels of building performance and resource efficiencies.
“The Demonstration House proves that the highest levels of performance and resource efficiency are possible in this extreme climate and challenging construction culture,” said Steigerwalt. “It is especially important to demonstrate that capability in a region where energy, water and other resources are being consumed at an unsustainable rate.”
Built as a “prototype” for the local and regional housing industry, along with two additional buildings that comprise a Collaboration Center, the house is part of a strategic, multi-year, regional market engagement and business growth initiative with SABIC, Saudi Arabia’s largest petrochemical company, and 45 industry leading solution providers.
“The Home of Innovation™ program was designed to inspire higher performance in the built environment and connect leading international companies to the region. It’s a vehicle to facilitate and catalyze market transformation,” says Steigerwalt. “It showcases best-in-class solutions that could be manufactured locally, enabling downstream industry growth in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region.”
